How do I get vomit smell out of carpet?

Bruce H asked:

So this is kind of gross, but my 4 year old threw-up on the carpet of his room. After removing the chunks and blotting up all the liquid (nice) we used Clorox Disintecting Bathroom cleaner the first day, the next day we used Resolve, but no luck so far….carpet still has the odor. Any tips or tricks???

shampoo it you can go to home depot or other stores and get a carpet shampooing machine I’ve used it before to clean up stains that leave bad smells and it works great

  2. Clearance Vacuum Cleaners

I have had luck in the past with odor removal from both cement (basement) and carpeting by using Listerine Mouth wash.

  3. Rug Superstore

Try Arm & Hammer Carpet Cleaner( i recommend tropical breeze), you sprinkle it all over the carpet , leave it for 30 min. then vacuum it up. the good smell will last for like a week. I bought it at the dollar store for like $1.50

  4. Discount pricing on Vacuums and Accessories

you could use a steam vaccum, use carpet deodorizer, and maybe some febreeze. All of them might work very well together, too. Poor kid!!!

    Hope I helped =)

Try Mr Clean antibacterial cleaner soak it down pretty good scrub it well if you have a shop vac use it to **** up excess water and cleaner then spray heavily with Lysol. Hope this helps.

  6. Rug Superstore

Try baking soda let it sit after you sprinkle it for about 20 minutes than vacuumm.. **** to tell you this but, it is possible that the vomit penetrated down into the paddding under the actual carpet. If this is the case than obviosly the carpet needs to be liffted out and replaced. Or you may want to try a steam cleaner you can rent them fairly cheap. I’ve been there with my two boys too.

  7. Beautiful Area Rugs

get the spot wet again and place a couple layers of paper towles on it with a heavy object to help absord some of the stain that got sown in the carpet weaves, then when it is dry sprinkle baking soda over it and let it set for a few min. then vacuum it up it may take a few times of this to get the smell out completely, if you notice a smell in the room get airwick plug ins they also sell baking soda floor cleaners and that stuff now armen hammer

I would take some ammonia and add a little water (it is a very strong smell) soak a rag in the mixture and apply to the area and make sure you open windows so that it is well ventilated.
When it dries it will have a light sweet smell to it.

use a carpet cleaner and get the shampoo for pet odors, it will take the smell out.
