hot iron laid down on berber carpet?
elamw asked:
Stupidly I was ironing on a towel sitting on floor and laid the iron down–no burnt discoloration–just sheen of outline of iron and rough spot feels burnt and catches lint, dirt, pet hair, etc.
Do I need to cut spot out and replace or anthing can “shave off” top burnt layer ??? Luckily can not tell when clean and not stepping on or touching…..
Other carpets have trimmed burnt tips in front of fireplace etc. but never encountered this before……..

I would say have someone cut it out and replace it. but in most cases you will also be able to tell where the patch is atleast a little bit.

You can try this, but be ready with a patch of carpet to replace in case it doesn’t work. Get a regular shaving razor and gently go over the area with it to remove the melted portion.

This sounds weird but I found it worked for me when I had a carpet with singed bits due to cigarettes (I have since successfully given up hoorah). Get a potato and cut it in half and rub the cut part hard on the surface of the singey burney bits and it comes up okay!!!!!! like magic. Go on give it a go.
