No they are not the same thing.

Use baking SODA only, for carpet cleaning (as a deoderizer during vacuuming).

No I do not think so because baking soda can be used in a lot of situations whereas baking powder is a levening agent like yeast…

    NO.

Baking soda : Sodium bicarbonate is the chemical compound with the formula NaHCO3. Because it has long been known and is widely used, the salt has many other names including sodium hydrogencarbonate, sodium bicarb, baking soda, bread soda, cooking soda, bicarb soda, saleratus or bicarbonate of soda. It is soluble in water. Sodium bicarbonate is a white solid that is crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. It has a slight alkaline taste resembling that of sodium carbonate. It is a component of the mineral natron and is found dissolved in many mineral springs. The natural mineral form is known as nahcolite. It is also produced artificially.

Powder : Baking powder is a dry chemical leavening agent used in baking and deodorizing. There are several formulations; all contain an alkali, typically sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), and an acid in the form of salt crystals, together with starch dioxide gas, which expands existing bubbles to leaven the mixture. Most modern baking powders are double acting, that is, they contain two acid salts, one which reacts at room temperature, producing a rise as soon as the dough or batter is prepared, and another which reacts at a higher temperature, causing a further rise during baking. Baking powders that contain only the low-temperature acid salts are called single acting. Many recipes call for a process called creaming, where butter and sugar are beaten together to introduce tiny seed bubbles which the leavening gas will further expand.

Common low-temperature acid salts include cream of tartar, calcium phosphate, and citrate. High-temperature acid salts are usually aluminium salts, such as calcium aluminum phosphate. They can be found not only in many baking powders, but also in many non-dairy coffee creamers. Excess aluminium in the diet may be detrimental to human health, and so baking powders are available without it for people who are concerned and those sensitive to the taste.

They are two completely different things. Powder can only be used for cooking. Soda can be used for cooking, cleaning, brushing your teeth, refreshing your fridge…etc etc.

Definitely don’t substitute on this one.

  8. Rug Superstore

No No no!!! Absolutely not! Baking powder is made for baking cookies, cakes etc.. Baking Soda is a bicarbonate used for many things. There are different types of baking soda though, some you can use to gargle others you can’t. Some you can use to clean carpets, others its not advised, read the back of the container and it should tell you.

    NO
Both baking soda and baking powder are leavening agents, which means they are added to baked goods before cooking to produce carbon dioxide and cause them to ‘rise’. Baking powder contains baking soda, but the two substances are used under different conditions.

    Baking Soda

Baking soda is pure sodium bicarbonate. When baking soda is combined with moisture and an acidic ingredient (e.g., yogurt, chocolate, buttermilk, honey), the resulting chemical reaction produces bubbles of carbon dioxide that expand under oven temperatures, causing baked goods to rise. The reaction begins immediately upon mixing the ingredients, so you need to bake recipes which call for baking soda immediately, or else they will fall flat!

    Baking Powder

Baking powder contains sodium bicarbonate, but it includes the acidifying agent already (cream of tartar), and also a drying agent (usually starch).

No, baking soda and baking powder are two different things. Baking powder can be made using 1/4 baking soda plus 1/2 tsp cream of tartar if you need it and only have the soda :)

  11. Explore the Top Models

No. They have similar functions in baking, but DO NOT use baking powder on your carpet!!! It contains acid which can cause color changes, and starch which can stick to the carpet fibers and is almost impossible to remove.

Baking Soda makes the bread light and a bit sour,it can use as deodorizer and cleans grease. Baking Power make the flour dough rise for baking bread ,cakes, and cookies. I put a little bit of baking soda on my carpet when I vaccum it helps remove the cooking odor that cling in my carpet.

  13. Rug Superstore

No! Baking soda and baking powder are two different substances.

Not in its physical form; baking soda is crystalline while baking powder is starchy in texture; in use, the powder is a leavening agent (example in baking cakes), but both i think have the same chemical composition which is Sodium Bicarbonate.

  15. Exquisite Rugs

No. The soda is what you use for cleaning.

  16. Clearance Vacuum Cleaners

No they are two different products. Don’t use baking powder on your carpet, either.
